A Generation of Energy: Georgetown Energy

WINNER: Best Overall Video

Georgetown Energy is ushering in a generation of energy. We are a student-run organization based in Washington D.C. that provides practical clean energy solutions, promoting environmental sustainability on campus, in the community, and abroad. On the Georgetown University campus, we have secured the Green Revolving Loan Fund, a $250,000 fund to open in the fall allocated to provide loans to student-driven environmental sustainability projects. Any Georgetown University student can apply for a loan to carry out a project that furthers sustainability for the Georgetown campus; this helps to foster a culture of social innovation among students, faculty, and administrators. In the community, we have been working to create "Solar Street"--21-27 kW worth of photovoltaic panels on university-owned townhouses--a project funded by the Green Revolving Loan Fund. This project helps promote sustainability in the community by showing neighborhood residents that using solar energy to power homes is possible and economically viable. Last but not least, we are promoting environmental sustainability abroad through our Clean Development Mechanism projects. Georgetown Energy connects sustainable development projects in developing countries such as Haiti with financial resources in the developing world.
